The Daytona International Speedway sits on 480 acres in the heart of Daytona Beach, FL.
The infield of 180 acres includes the 29 acre Lake Lloyd. The home of the Super Bowl of Nascar, the Daytona 500, this enormous motorsports complex consists of a 2.5 mile tri-oval super speedway with a 31 degree banking. The track first opened in 1959 when it was no longer feasible to race on the beach. The Daytona beach races were first organized by
Bill France, Sr. in 1959 when half of the race was on the beach and the other half on a paved road parallel to the beach. The Daytona International Speedway as we know it today was completed in July, 1984.
There are eight speed weekends hosted at the Daytona International Speedway to include Nascar’s Daytona 500 and the Coke Zero, formerly known as the Pepsi 400 on Independence Day weekend in July. The 51st Anniversary of the Daytona 500 is set to be run on Sunday, February 17, 2008 followed by the 50th Anniversary of the Coke Zero 400 on July 5, 2008.
There is a variety of fun filled activities that race fans can enjoy while visiting the Daytona International Speedway such as the Daytona Experience 500; which includes a track tour, lunch at the Budweiser Bistro and various souvenir shops to purchase merchandise of your favorite driver. The Daytona International Speedway also offers pre race pit passes and hospitality programs for their fan’s enjoyment.
The Daytona International Speedway does permit fans to bring into the track a soft-sided cooler and a clear plastic bag into the track on race day.
